Oops, I did it again. I disappeared for months. So sorry. I have many reasons - too busy, nicer weather thus away from computer more, work is nuts, writer’s block, not inspired - you name it.
But I’m back. And I promise there will be more posts - with regularity - because in the past [...]

This past Friday, I was able to be front and center (literally!) for Bill Clinton’s speech at Asheville High. A good friend had the hook-up and we got to bypass the line and get our pick of where to stand. I dislike Hillary rather a lot, but I respect Bill and 1) wasn’t [...]

I spent my morning with a magnificent and extremely talented, motivated, caring, intelligent group of people. And while I tried to listen to their presentation, I actually realized that I’d been missing something my whole life….the meaning of the verb “to set” in Western North Carolina.
I never got it, even though I grew up [...]

Oh dear.
Bill is coming to town to stump for Hillary. Her people have intimated that they don’t give a rat’s arse about NC, but other campaign observers are noting that the campaign for the democratic nominee might just come down to ole NC. Our primary isn’t until June. Seventh to last in [...]

You know the whole cops-and-donuts thing. I used to live down the street from a 7-11 (oh thank heaven!) and the stereotype lived on as tons of DC cops used to come in and get their coffee and donuts, then sit around and hog the parking spaces while talking and stuffing their faces. [...]

Despite the occasional exploration of new “food” textures, such as paper, plastic and penguin gourds, Buddy is an exemplary little fellow and yesterday we were presented with our official certificate of completion for the obediance training we completed in October. I am beaming with pride.
For you Ashevillians, I took Buddy to Lucy Coronado, the trainer [...]

On Saturday, I bought a skinny, precious, hand-painted penguin gourd from a mountain lady at a local farmer’s market. It had so much character and was so wonderful that I put him on my bedside table. I loved him.
He was eaten last night. Savagely devoured by a hound mix named…… Buddy.
This is not the penguin [...]

Aw shucks. The first 5 seconds of my 15 minutes of fame have begun, and I wanted my readers to be among the first to know.
That’s right folks. I’m doing something big. Forget marriage and babies - everyone else is doing that stuff - I needed something big but original. And then one day while [...]

Just six months after their last Asheville show, Widespread Panic is returning to Asheville, this time for their annual Halloween show. Asheville Citizen-Times Take 5 correspondent Jedd Ferris has a nice piece in last week’s Take 5 about the upcoming show here.
Having been to their Halloween show at NYC’s Madison Square Gardens in what I [...]

We’re having balmy weather here in Asheville (for fall), and I’m still freezing because 75 is cold to me. But - the good news is, we’re still having crisp clear days with gorgeous fall sunsets, like this one, which I captured (poorly) while standing out of the sun roof at an Arby’s on I-26 in [...]

Busy times folks, busy times. But don’t fall off the edge of your seats wondering how I am, because here’s an update:
T and I went to a German restaurant in Asheville last night, called Black Forest Restaurant. We ate schnitzels. We discussed the pronunciation of “wiener” with the waiter. We thought about Oktoberfest. The place was [...]

Nice piece on Asheville in the New York Times. Worth a read!
Reporter Chris Dixon opens the story by describing our little town…
Asheville is an Appalachian Shangri-La. This year-round resort town, tucked between the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains, draws a funky mix of New Agers, fleece-clad mountain bikers, antiques lovers and old-time farmers. And what’s [...]

I’ve been having bloggerblock lately. I have a lot to say, but everytime I think about posting, I start to feel shy about it. My fingers won’t move. Not sure what’s going on. I’ll put in a few tidbits of what’s been happening, mostly for my own entertainment and records, since I’m pretty sure I’m [...]

Haven’t posted in a few days as I’m absolutely waterlogged and pruney. I’m real glad that Asheville is getting this much-needed rain, but I’m one of those folks who wants to just crawl in a hole and die after this many days of rain.
Anyway, this weekend in Asheville is Bele Chere, our annual festival in [...]

1) I have not read one single Harry Potter book. You heard me right. And I know I’d love them. I need to catch up, like, fast. I’m terrified I will find out the ending and it will ruin everything for me.
2) My boss’s wife makes killer baked goods and I have eaten nothing today [...]

I’m really not a huge fan of email forwards, but I got this one from my Mom and thought it was hilarious. (Disclaimer: I take absolutely no credit for it and have no clue who originally wrote it.) I have, however, added my comments in red to the tips I find particularly true. (Ps… The link [...]
